FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens during my first class?

  • Warm-Up: Join everyone in performing Jiu Jitsu movements to get started.

  • Technical Instruction: Learn techniques step-by-step with guidance from our instructors.

  • Specific Drilling: Practice the techniques in controlled drills for better understanding.

  • One-on-One Orientation: We’ll bring you aside to explain the basic positions and show you a few moves from each position to get you started.

What should be worn for my first class?

So we recommend showing up in comfortable workout clothes. Similar to board shorts and a T-shirt. On Gi days, pronounced "Gee" (The uniform) we have gi's that we will lend you for your first class. For the NO-GI days (without the uniform) on Tues, Thurs and Sat, just wear the shorts and a T-shirt and you're perfectly fine.

What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu?

The main difference between Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is the clothing and grip style. In Gi Jiu Jitsu, practitioners wear a traditional uniform (called a "Gi"), which allows for grips on the fabric to execute techniques. In No-Gi Jiu Jitsu, practitioners wear athletic attire like rash guards and shorts, focusing on grips and techniques that don’t rely on the fabric. Both styles develop core Jiu Jitsu skills, but Gi training emphasizes grip control and traditional techniques, while No-Gi focuses more on speed and fluid transitions. Both are great ways to improve your skills!
